Vivi\u00f3 su juventud durante la decadencia del poder almohade, producida por la derrota de Las Navas de Tolosa (1212), que gener\u00f3 la aparici\u00f3n de peque\u00f1as taifas en permanente inestabilidad. Ya antes de la conquista de X\u00e0tiva por Jaume I (1244) march\u00f3 a Oriente, al igual que su compatriota Ibn Yannan, buscando una mayor formaci\u00f3n en tradiciones prof\u00e9ticas. Estudi\u00f3 en Bagdad, Alepo y El Cairo, en donde imparti\u00f3 docencia hasta su muerte (1264). Las fuentes biogr\u00e1ficas lo describen como uno de los imanes m\u00e1s c\u00e9lebres de su \u00e9poca por sus grandes conocimientos de ciencia religiosa y por su nobleza de car\u00e1cter.
